Reporting to the CEO, The Head of Human will provide strategic HR leadership and drive the execution of the DiaMedica’s human resources strategy. This person will be the senior lead for key human resource functions at DiaMedica, including strategic plans, talent acquisition and management, performance review, compensation coordination and organization management.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Human Resources. This role is crucial in shaping and executing our HR strategy, ensuring the alignment of HR initiatives with our business goals and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in HR leadership within the life sciences industry, preferably biotech, in a growing company. Preference for local candidates. Opportunity for part-time position.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic HR Leadership:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the company's mission, vision and business objectives.
  • Advise the executive team and Board of Directors on strategic HR-related matters, providing insights and recommendations to drive organizational success.

Talent Acquisition and Management:

  • Oversee the recruitment and selection processes to attract and retain top talent.
  • Implement effective talent management programs to ensure the development and retention of high-potential employees.
  • Employee Relations and Engagement:
  • Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture that promotes employee engagement, satisfaction and productivity.
  • Address employee concerns and conflicts with a focus on resolution and maintaining a harmonious work environment.

Performance Management:

  • Oversee short term and long term incentive performance management systems that drive employee performance and accountability.
  • Provide coaching and support to managers on performance-related issues and professional development.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Work directly with compensation committee and its compensation consultants to support the design and management of competitive executive and director compensation programs.
  • Provide oversight and guidance in the design of competitive staff compensation and benefits programs that attract and retain talent while aligning with the company's financial objectives.

HR Policies and Compliance:

  • Provide guidance and direction on HR policies and procedures that support the company's goals and comply with legal requirements.

Organizational Development:

  • Lead initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness, including training and development programs, leadership development and change management.
  • Assess and address organizational needs to support growth and scalability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a senior HR leadership role.
  • Experience in the biotechnology or life sciences industry is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws and regulations.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic HR initiatives that align with business goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build strong relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management and organizational development.
